Fantastic Experience!!!!!

I just had the best experience of my time here! I went with a group of about 35 people to a local school and handed out school supplies, toys, and candy to a class of boys from 6-12 years old. It was a great experience and I will hopefully be able to post some pictures sometime soon. The kids were great and very polite! They taught me some Dahri and I tried to teach them some english although many spoke some words. I even tried to show one kid how to golf (he had received a set of play golf clubs). It was very rewarding, but very short. Unfortunately, we had to be in our body armor other than that everything went off without a problem! It really put a face on the people we are here trying to help!

Would you be interested in/able to distribute some school kits for the kids out there? We are trying to figure out a service project to do with Mia next month where we could actually see/hear about the results. The school kits include these things:

4 unsharpened pencils
1 pencil sharpener
1 box pre-sharpened or unsharpened assorted colored pencils
1 pair blunt-nosed scissors with metal blades
1 rubber pencil eraser
1 straight edge ruler—not to exceed 12", with metric measurements
450 pages of paper in glued or spiral-bound notebooks or letter-size legal pads, all with lined sheets

Each kit comes in a bag that we would buy or make, depending on cultural issues.

Let us know if this is of interest by return comment. :) Stay safe out there!

I am so glad you are able to see and help the children there. That's why I sent so much five cent penny candy! We are all very PROUD of you and the job you are doing. Grandma says she will make you some more Chex Mix real soon! Please take care! We love you!

Trish,
I think that would be outstanding! It would make it sooooo much easier to hand out since handing out one pencil or notebook at a time, some kids end up with 5 and others, none. How many could you send? There are about 30 kids in class, but whatever you could send would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!!

Hi Jason:

Been following your exploits periodically. Pretty amazing. What an experience you are having!

Stephanie's birthday is today. She says she wants to relive some of the good times she has had in life, so she is going to Girl Scout Camp this afternoon with 59 other women. They are camping out and have all kinds of classes and hikes, etc. scheduled today and tomorrow.

Stay safe out there and hope to see you soon. We are planning to visit Jen and kids in early December. Sorry you won't be there.

It sounds a lot like Kuwait (the base, anyway). I'm glad that they let you outside the wires every once in a while. We'll see if we can't get a care package off later this week.

Take care, brother!
